On Love and Sacrifice
To love requires the most power, the most mercy and thus the most self-control. The one who loves surges with all emotion - rage, fear and passion and yet holds it all in check in favor of a wise dispensation. For one who loves, what is right always takes precedence. It is in the union between husband and wife that this force is unleashed. Every whimper, every scream of ecstasy, every thrust liberates the power of love.
This is the "why?" behind our obsession with sex. But such a force as this is not a toy for the novice. Sex is at once our most spiritual and our most carnal inclination. Just because we know how to do it doesn't mean we fully understand how to use it. But we can seek, and we can self-correct. By devotion to the Truth we can come to full realization of ourselves and full realization of God.
Love is self-restraint and deliberate action. Its goal is maintaining peace, light and harmonious order despite constant opposition and darkness. God is love. For all the trouble, the burden and the ingratitude God receives... we gift ourselves. We are the sacrifice. Our pride, vanity and lust is slain on the altar of a higher Truth. We want heaven on earth but we don't want it to cost anything. We think we should enjoy perfect

peace without having to do anything but pay lip service. However, although we are saved constantly by God's grace, in devotion we offer our every effort toward God's exaltation. After all, without works faith is indeed dead. And lest we fall into the delusion of self importance we remember that it is never our effort in itself which garner's God's grace, it is His will and His love, dispensed at His pleasure.
If you have ever known one whom you would die for, you have tasted love. God pours into the hollow. Love is not an abstract, ephemeral idea but a tangibly expressed action. It is both a state of being and its manifestation. If you are one who knows God, you have accepted the call to give your own life unto His control. When meeting the Guru one wants to flee, sensing great danger. Love is the power to annihilate, honed wisely in an effort to bring about your enlightenment. Union with all-that-is means blurring your edges and going beyond your naive limitations. This can be done only in the presence of love and love can only have its way when we surrender to it alone. Then we are fit to receive the outpouring force and ecstasy of God's every desire.
