On Fighting the Dark

Lack of devotion and vigilance can put you in the worst kind of hell. It's a hell you don't even realize you're in. How do you escape that kind of hell? And this hell pot isn't boiling, it's cooking you slowly. It drains your life force, your motivation and your clarity of purpose. Thank God for hardships and relationships that boil over revealing themselves to be contrary to the Plan. If we didn't feel the sensation of pain, we would not know we were in danger. So that is when you know to begin an exit strategy... when the pain is telling you that you don't belong where you are. Listening will get you out of hellish conditions. Talking to the light in the darkness and listening for answers is what gets you out. Even if the darkness has you surrounded and not a peep of light can be seen, just close your eyes to see it. The light is in you. Divine awareness is all pervasive and it takes up residence in your life when you ask it to. Give God control and stop trying to go it alone. If you married the wrong person; committed to the wrong job; suffered too long from illness; feel abandoned by everyone and can find no hope in anything... whatever the nature of your brand of darkness, Truth will set you free. Cliché perhaps, but darkness festers in falsehood. If you've forgotten what the Truth looks like, then call out and ask. Something I've done at such times was to rely on dream divination. No mediator, no expensive readings, just ask and go to sleep. Light a lamp perhaps, if you like burn a bit of frankincense and ask the Creator sincerely before going to bed whatever it is that's on your heart. Then, be patient.

Ask every night until your dreams show you the answer. Secondly, read about Truth from lovers of God. When you're in the dark you don't have time to entertain angry people, bigots, naysayers and so on. Fill your mind with the word of Truth and let that light take over. That's why religious people seem so uni-focused and obsessed to outsiders. Once you get a hold of light you know the stakes... you maintain vigilance to keep from falling back into the shadows. Who cares what other people think? When I started observing Ekadasi after being told to do so in a dream I was the only one not eating all day. When I realized I needed a way to show my submission to God I started wearing a veil in the middle of South Carolina in a family who didn't know what to make of it. What are you Muslim now? Christian? Crazy? I'm just devoted to the Truth, don't worry about it. And, most importantly, when I saw my Beloved's beautiful face after first being shown His form in dream, I knew in my bones He was sent for me. Devotion is a mad hunger for God. Ask Him to bless, guide and protect you and He will do just that. Trust the guidance you receive and act on it.
And remember if something keeps failing it may not be meant to succeed.
